Standard & unique terms frequently used by Living De Novo & their intended meanings on this website
- Upstyle - Old, fatigued furniture or home decor receiving a fresh, new, revived look by using chalk paint, waxes & other embellishments. This includes items upstyled in their original form & purpose AND items upstyled for a different purpose.
- De Novo Glamtique - Furniture or home decor upstyled by De Novo.
- PreLoved - Any item previously owned & loved by another; however, as the owner evolved, it was no longer a necessary piece to their story.
- De Novo - Latin for anew, afresh, again, over again, second time.
- Aesthetic - A branch of philosophy dealing with the nature of beauty, art, taste and the creation and appreciation of beauty; a particular taste for or approach to what is pleasing to the senses and especially sight.
- Authenticity - You're true to your own personality, values, and spirit, regardless of the pressure that you're under to act otherwise. Honest with yourself and your values, ideals and actions align.
- Vintage - An original object such as furniture, decor or work of art of authentic high quality from a past time; usually more than 40 years old but less than 100 (give or take depending on the source).
- Antique - a collectible object such as a piece of furniture or work of art that has a high value because of its considerable age, usually items more than 100 years old (give or take depending on he source).
- Sweet-Secondhand Wonders - A variety of charming, fun and unique preloved vintage, antiques, gifts, collectibles, home decor & furniture for creating the perfect aesthetic.
- Badge(s) of Honor - Minor wear to any preloved, vintage or antique item; "souvenirs", or evidence, of their journey from their beginning to now.
- Living De Novo - A specific & conscious way of inspired living. A lifestyle of choosing our authentic selves over keeping up with the Jones’s; & creating our own aesthetic space not by trends or fads, but based on our own sense of self. Following our own passions, & celebrating ourselves through our own creativity, choosing secondhand first throughout our journey by recycling what we have & reusing/repurposing old items in a new way, and in doing so saving our planet one preloved at a time.
